The Cost Of smoking is getting higher and higher every year, roughly speaking it costs a 20 a day smoker about £9 a day so that works out at about £60 per week and roughly £260 per month. Now that’s not taking into account those “extra” cigarettes people smoke while drinking alcohol. People who smoke are probably more likely to drink alcohol and if so many of those will smoke more cigarettes when they drink.
Saving money can help motivate a person to quit but health is a greater factor in motivating people to quit and if you have decided to quit because of health or financial reasons then hypnotherapy is your best bet according to the new scientist magazine who reported on the most comprehensive study on methods of quitting that “hypnotherapy enjoys a greater success rate than any other method in helping people stop smoking.
Hypnotherapy is only one of a number of methods used to quit smoking but what makes it so special? And why is hypnotherapy for smoking (smoking cessation) much faster acting than other methods in use today?
Hypnotherapy utilises the trance state, a state human beings are constantly shifting in and out of all the time. Humans aware or not are well adapted to this state so hypnotherapy uses this natural state of mind to help correct unwanted behaviours like smoking. Through hypnosis, a person can relax while a hypnotherapist can talk directly to the subconscious mind. The subconscious will take on new information and suggestions. Once these suggestions have been taken on board and the idea has been accepted the person quitting has more chance of success, the person no longer wishes to smoke and in turn people don’t have any cravings. Over the years since a smoker began smoking they have been unwittingly reprogramming themselves to believe that cigarettes are actually doing something good for them. Through repetition, a smoker has used a compounding effect to solidify a positive intention.
Some of the more common reasons smokers give :-
- Stress Relief
- Loose weight
- Something to do with hands
This list all carry positive intentions for the smoker however there are better ways to achieve these.
Utilising hypnosis as a tool for ourselves the subconscious can generate healthy behavioural alternatives to these goals. These behaviours will be automatic so you don’t have to worry about remembering. They will happen unconsciously. The subconscious was given the suggestion to achieve the same things the smoker believed smoking cigarettes did for them, but the big difference is the method is much more healthy than cigarettes will ever be.
To be brutally honest coffee is more addictive than nicotine but what is very addictive about smoking is the habit. Smokers will tell you they only enjoy a few cigarettes a day i.e. the first one of the day or the lunch time smoke. The habitual nature or outside influences that trigger the smoking response, waiting for a bus, having a alcoholic drink or after food. These are the times that may prove to be the downfall of a smokers attempt to quit. But this needn’t happen. With the tool hypnosis you can reprogram those behaviours and ditch those external stimuli that make you reach for the cigarettes. In place you will have a new found freedom and more confidence from your success of quitting smoking once and for all and all in one session.
